We are very pleased that you are interested in applying for the role of UKDSC Chief Executive.  The UKDSC sits at the very heart of the UK Defence Growth Partnership (DGP) whose core strategic mission is to transform the UK’s defence industry to equip it to deliver export-driven growth. Our strategy has three core elements: -

  1. To take a strategic, long-term focus towards international defence customers’ needs by discerning key trends and market drivers out to a 15-year horizon;
  2. Identifying key capability themes required to meet customers’ needs, highlighting where investment is required to address any gaps;
  3. Innovative ways to encourage new investment in the sector whilst seeking enhanced alignment between government and industry investment.

We are seeking the appointment of a resilient, ambassadorial Chief Executive with a proven track record of senior leadership.  The UKDSC currently comprises about 30 people, with a number of secondees from the DGP founder companies.  It is funded by joint investment by BEIS and the DGP partner companies. It is constituted to operate both collaboratively and impartially as an advocate of the whole sector, free of any individual company’s commercial interests. 

We are about to enter our second phase of BEIS funding, which will run from April 2018 for five years, allowing an increased full-time, directly employed cohort to improve resilience and continuity of outputs.  You will need to have a broad and comprehensive understanding of the defence sector, its future dynamics and the changes taking place in the export market with the ability to network across a wide spectrum of stakeholders.
