Health & Wellbeing - World Cancer Day 4 February 2023

10 million people die each year from cancer. By 2030, experts project cancer deaths to rise to 13 million. It's time to act.

More than one third of cancer cases can be prevented. Another third can be cured if detected early and treated properly. By implementing resource-appropriate strategies on prevention, early detection and treatment, we can save millions of lives every year.

World Cancer Day is an international day marked on 4 February to raise awareness of cancer and to encourage its prevention, detection, and treatment. The theme for the years 2022-2024 is 'Close the Care Gap' that focuses on reducing the inequities that exist in accessing quality cancer services worldwide.

This year also marks 20 years since Cancer Research UK was founded. Show your support this World Cancer Day, on our 20th Anniversary, by wearing your Unity Band® or making a donation.

There are events happening all over the world, such as UICC's 5k Challenge, which encourages people from all walks of life to complete a 5km loop by running, cycling, swimming, trekking, or other methods as a way to bring attention to the cause. Participants are then encouraged to post their activities on social media, with the hashtags #WorldCancerDay and #CloseTheCareGap.

There are also 21-day challenges, for people to create new positive healthy habits, help eliminate cervical cancer, or educate themselves and speak out about inequities in accessing cancer services.
