The Council of Deans of Health has announced the appointment of a new Board of Trustees. Professor Brian Webster-Henderson, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Health, Environment and Innovation) at the University of Cumbria, has been appointed for a second term as Chair alongside a new board of twelve trustees as the Council identifies itself as a registered charity. Thewlis Graham Associates are delighted to have worked with the CoDH on this assignment.

The REC is pleased to announce that Sarah Thewlis has been elected as the new Chair of the REC Board, which is the executive body accounting for the REC’s performance as a business. Sarah is Managing Director of executive search firm Thewlis Graham Associates which she co-founded in 2010. She initially joined the REC Council in 2013 and has held several other non-executive positions including as Chair of a cancer support charity. Sarah takes over from Chris Moore who has served the maximum term of seven years as a non-executive director and three years as Chair.

The latest KPMG and REC, UK Report on Jobs survey signalled a renewed upturn in hiring activity in August as more parts of the economy reopened following the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak. Although permanent placements rose only slightly, temp billings expanded at the quickest rate for 20 months. The availability of candidates meanwhile rose at the second-steepest rate in over two-decades of data collection amid reports of widespread redundancies. At the same time, vacancy trends remained subdued, with overall demand for staff falling further in August. Consequently, recruiters signalled further drops in starting salaries and temp wages.
