REC - Not addressing labour shortages could cost UK economy £30 billion every year

REC - This morning we launched our latest campaign, Overcoming Shortages, which is aimed at shaping the debate about the jobs market for the new PM and on up to the next General Election. The report explicitly links the debate around growth, tax cuts and public spending to the jobs market – using high quality economic analysis to demonstrate that the economy will be up to £39bn a year smaller, with lower tax revenues and pay settlements, if we don’t address the shortages we face. REC - Report on Jobs: Permanent placement growth weakens to 16-month low in June

Permanent staff appointments and temp billings expanded at the softest rates for 16 months in June, according to the latest KPMG and REC, UK Report on Jobs survey, compiled by S&P Global. Recruiters mentioned that candidate shortages continued to limit hiring activity, but slower decision-making at clients amid greater economic uncertainty also dampened growth. At the same time, overall demand for workers increased at the slowest rate since March 2021. Read the full article within.
