Giving Tuesday 29th November 2022 - By Lizzy Turek

#GivingTuesday was created in 2012 in New York to encourage people to do good by volunteering time or making donations to charities. It is celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving and after the widely recognised shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Over the last decade, this has developed into a global movement that inspires millions of people to collaborate and donate time, skills and resources and celebrate generosity.

#GivingTuesday holds the world record for the most money raised online for charity in 24-hours. In 2020, £20.2 million donations on Giving Tuesday, equivalent to almost £14,000 a minute and amounted to a 43% increase from Giving Tuesday 2019 based on Visa UK data (Giving Tuesday UK: 29 November 2022).

Businesses have also used #GivingTuesday to celebrate and encourage giving and inspiring employees and customers to be a force for good. #GivingTuesday is a perfect opportunity for businesses to celebrate their corporate social responsibility and promote greater employee engagement.

Other potential benefits for businesses include:
