Following the announcement that Maurice Cheng will retire as the iO’s CEO at the end of May, the iO is delighted to announce that, after a thorough and competitive recruitment process, Dr. Alison Robinson Canham has been appointed as his successor, starting 1 June.

Dr Robinson Canham has had an extensive and successful career as a strategist in professional development and academic leadership across higher education institutions, chartered professional associations and medical royal colleges.

Most recently, Dr Robinson Canham was Dean of Learning and Teaching at Arden University and previously held leadership roles at the Royal Veterinary College, Higher Education Academy and the Association of University HE Professionals. Alison also holds a doctorate in Educational Research from Lancaster University, where her research focused on the educational role of professional bodies.

Daniel Collis, iO President, said of the appointment: “Since Maurice informed us of his intention to retire, Council and I have been committed to ensuring we appoint a leader with the experience, vision and values to build upon the strong foundations he has laid. Under Maurice’s leadership, the iO has undergone significant development, and we are immensely grateful for his service to the profession.

“Alison’s appointment marks the exciting next chapter for the iO. With her experience, dedication and support of the iO team behind her, we are confident she will lead the iO and the profession forward, championing osteopathy and supporting the aims and aspirations of our members.”

Over the coming weeks, Maurice will work closely with Alison to ensure a smooth and effective transition before she takes the helm on June 1st.

Alison will seek to engage with our stakeholders and iO Members over the coming weeks and months to gain an in-depth understanding of Osteopathy, our profession’s contribution to patient care and our members’ aspirations.
